Hi, we are Matt and Lindsay Poyner, and we feel lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in Canada – Prince Edward County.

But we didn’t always live here.  When she met Matt, Lindsay was Communication Disorders Assistant, teaching children with developmental delays new ways to communicate.  Matt was a medical resident who went on to specialize in Emergency Medicine.   Somehow he managed to convince her to marry him – and even crazier to have four kids with him!

Thirteen years later, Matt’s passion for medicine was fading, as his passion for woodworking continued to grow, but life in the GTA with four young boys just wasn’t cutting it.  It was time to make a change.  So we sold our house and most of our stuff (no, not our tools), packed everything we needed in six backpacks, and traveled around the world for a year.

It was awesome.  We feel incredibly fortunate to have had that opportunity.  Memories to last a lifetime, a global education for our boys, and just the shake-up that we needed to re-evaluate what we wanted out of life.

Did Matt miss medicine?  Did Lindsay miss the city?  Nope and nope.  But we missed having a home and a community and – you guessed it – making stuff.  So we lost our backpacks and bought a little (for six people) house in Picton with a beautiful heated shop out back.

Mattlin Woodcraft was born.
